Yoga means "Union" - union of the individual divine consciousness with Cosmic Divine Consciousness. This union could be realized through many paths. Music has always been a powerful helper on this journey.

1. Dawn - lyrics: Mowlana Rumi
By God,
From the longings of your love
I will not flee;
Shall you ask for my life
I will not resist.
I am holding a cup
By God,
Until you come
Be it till the end of the days
I will neither drink
Nor spill.
My sunrise
Is your moonlike face,
My nights
Your dark hair;
By God,
Without your face
And your hair
I will neither sleep
Nor rise.

3. Threshold - lyrics: Hafez
I have no shelter in the world
But your threshold;

I have no altar to bow to
But your door.
As on the path,
I see traps at every corner,
I have no protection
But the lock of your hair.

4. Theft - lyrics: Mowlana
I have come to surrender,
And take your love away...

8. Encounter - lyrics: Mowlana
In the midst of my heart
appeared the vision of his radiant beauty;
There was no pathway, no door,
I wonder, how did he enter?

Cruelty turned into troth,
Darkness into candor,
The human vanished;
The Divine appeared.

Blessings and gratitude to:

  1. My tanbour teachers- Keyshosro Pournazeri, for having accepted with open mind and heart a Persian woman as his pupil, at a time when this music was still kept tightly secret; Ali Akbar Moradi for generously revealing to me the beauties of the maqams; and Alireza Feyz Bashipoor;
  2. Maestro Shahram Nazeri for his constant encouragements and for honoring me with the tanbour name of Heyraneh, in his remembrance of a woman dervish in Kermanshah by that name.
  3. All my spiritual teachers;
  4. All the supportive beautiful beings in this creation, including Michel Tyabji limitlesssky.net who suggested the creation of this album.
  • Tanbour is the oldest and most genuine Iranian string instrument. From ancient times, the tanbour was played in Iran and especially in Western regions, Khorassan province, Persian Gulf and Lorestan. Nowadays nearly half of the people around the world are using this instrument under different names.
    Saint Shah Khoshin from Lorestan, Baba Taher’s teacher, is known to be the first to have played tanbour when praising the Divine along with his followers. One century later, Kurdish saint Soltan Sahhak, the founder of Ahle-Hagh (people of Truth), chose tanbour as their exclusive musical instrument, and 72 Kalams or sacred Yarsan maqams were selected to be used for their djamm (devotional/liturgical gatherings). Besides he 72 sacred Kalams, there are numerous ancient maqams of tanbour.
    Tanbur holds a high place among the Yarsan people, to the point where its vibrations have been called "neda-al Hagh" or the voice of the Divine.
    The music of Yarsan people is still an unexplored treasure of simple yet mysteriously powerful melodies.
